Welcome to my Hack Shack here you will find a list of RF equipment I use regularly.
Software Defined Radios
HackRF One and PortaPack
Official GreatScottGadgets HackRF One with official H1 Portapack (Right)
China Clone HackRF and China clone H2 PortaPack (Left)
Both are running Mayhem firmware. If you don’t have one you need one.
KiwiSDR: Wide-band SDR
KiwiSDR with a active mini whip antenna.
This is a bad ass little device that can see 0-30Mhz with 30Mhz bandwidth seeing the entire range at once and has a custom version of OpenWebRX installed that does all kinds of nifty things.
Caribou Lite RPi HAT
CaribouLite turns your Raspberry Pi single-board computer (SBC) into a self-contained, dual-channel radio Tx/Rx that spans a wide tunable frequency spectrum up to 6 GHz with 4 MHz bandwidth.
ADALM PlutoSDR
I have 2 of these which feature
- Hacked for RF coverage from 70 MHz to 6 GHz
- Up to 20 MHz of instantaneous bandwidth
- Flexible rate, 12-bit ADC and DAC
- One transmitter port and one receiver port, half or full duplex
RTL-SDR.COM Dongle
I have probably 6-7 of these amazing little beasts. They can tune from 500 kHz to 1.7 GHz and has up to 3.2 MHz of instantaneous bandwidth. They are receive only and are cheap as can be. Just about every piece of software SDR related works with this.
Radio’s
TYT TH-9800D Plus
I have this in my car its a Quad Band 50W Cross-Band Mobile, 10M/6M/2M/70CM Mobile Transceiver.
Baofeng UV-5R
This is a great little hand held transceiver providing 4 watts in the frequency range of 136-174 MHz and 400-520MHz oh and its dirt cheap.
Penetration Tools
Flipper Zero
This is a cool little device that lets you play with any kind of access control system, RFID, radio protocols, IR Transceiver, NFC, Bluetooth, 1-Wire iButton, and a Sub-1GHz Transceiver. Basically if it talks wirelessly this thing can explore it.
I have 2 of these, one with Xtreme FW and one with Unleashed FW
PortaPack for HackRF
I figure I should add this here too. The PortaPack attaches to your HackRF and adds a touchscreen LCD, user controls, headphone jack, high-accuracy clock reference, real-time clock, micro SD card slot. This and with custom firmware like Mayhem turns this thing into a mobile monster capable of playing with a lot of systems.
Pwnagotchi
This thing eats wifi connections and lives on a small RPi Zero W computer which can fit in your pocket. It’s a DIY open source gadget for hacking Wi-Fi that gets smarter the more networks it gets exposed to using machine learning.
Antenna’s
KB9VBR 2M J-Pole
This thing may be tuned for transmitting on the 2 meter band but its a great receive antenna sub-1GHz.
Discone
Great wideband antenna spanning 25-1300MHz I use this antenna the most it seems.
Active Mini-Whip
Great antenna for 0-30MHz I currently have this mounted in my attic and use it on my KiwiSDR.
MLA-30+ Loop
This antenna gets some bad rep but with a few easy modifications it seems to be a halfway decent HF 0-30MHZ loop for under $50
ADS-B Coaxial COLLINEAR
Made out of RG-8 Coaxial cable
WellGood Loop
A WellBrook Active Loop clone that does pretty well for the price.
Antenna Rotators
SARCTRAC
Satellite Antenna Rotator Controller and TRACker automatically rotates a satellite antenna under the control of a PC-based, satellite tracking application like SatDump for tracking satellites in orbit.
Other Stuff
NanoVNA
NanoVNA vector network antenna analyzer
moFReus
MoRFeus is a 30 MHz – 6 GHz field-configurable Fractional-N wideband frequency converter and signal generator.
LNA’s and Converters
I have tons of LNA’s, converters, TX amps, band stop filters, bandpass filters, you name it I probably have it.
Astron SL-15M Power Supply
The importance of a good low noise power supply is often overlooked and very important to weak signal reception.
